Gendarmerie's Sensitive-Nosed Dogs Leave No Room for Criminals
Izmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command's trained dogs, such as "Zümre", "Batik", and "Garip", play an active role in drug operations, road controls, and various search activities. These 3 dogs with sensitive noses contribute significantly to the seizure of hidden drugs due to their sharp sense of smell. According to Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Fatih Kamalak, there are a total of 18 trained dogs in the Izmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command and Sason District Gendarmerie Commando Battalion. The dogs go through regular training every day, following a 52-week training program published annually by the Gendarmerie General Command. In the fight against drugs, the dogs participated in 473 missions last year and managed to seize various amounts of drugs. The Provincial Gendarmerie Command's drug search dog units continue their duty tirelessly, treating the fight against drugs and terrorism equally.
