Global Temperatures Expected to Decline After Hottest First 6 Months
Copernicus Climate Change Service data shows that global average temperatures in June reached 16.66 degrees, surpassing the previous record for the hottest June. With June marking the 13th consecutive month of record-breaking temperatures, the global average temperature for the past 12 months has hit the highest level on record. Despite the record-breaking temperatures, a decline in global temperatures is forecasted following the hottest first 6 months of the year. Experts predict that although 2024 may not be the hottest summer, it is unlikely to be a cool one either. The effects of climate change, including increased heat extremes and erratic weather patterns, are expected to impact countries in the Mediterranean Basin, leading to more arid conditions and intensified rainfall events.
