Health Crisis in England: Patients Being Cared for in Toilets
Royal College of Nursing (RCN) conducted a survey with over 5,000 nurses from all over the UK. According to the findings, 9 out of 10 nurses (91.5%) provide care in inappropriate environments such as corridors at least once a month, while nearly 7 out of 10 nurses (66.8%) provide care in unsuitable places daily. It is reported that patients are being cared for in corridors, storage rooms, parking lots, and even toilets due to overcrowding in hospitals. Some other findings about the state of hospitals include: RCN General Secretary and Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Ranger, stated that the situation is not specific to certain hospitals but rather a crisis across the system. Ranger emphasized the need for government intervention. An emergency department nurse shared, 'I deal with new tasks every day. Most of my colleagues have already left and have no intention of returning.' Another nurse voiced concerns about the high risk of patients dying unnoticed, saying, 'Everyone is on edge, things are slipping through the cracks.'
