Trade Minister Bolat to Visit Libya Alongside Contracting Companies

Trade Minister Omer Bolat will travel to Libya tomorrow to deepen bilateral economic cooperation between Turkey and Libya. The visit holds great importance for the new phase of relations between Turkey and Libya. During the visit, it is expected that Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe will receive Minister Bolat. Bolat is also planned to meet with Libya's Minister of Economy and Trade, Muhammed Huveyc, and Central Bank Governor Naci Isa. Potential bilateral economic and commercial cooperation topics will be discussed during these meetings. The main agenda of this visit will focus on forming collaborations in the field of contracting between the two countries. Representatives of Turkish contracting companies operating in Libya will accompany Bolat. As part of the visit, the first meeting of the Turkey-Libya Joint Working Group, established in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed in 2020 in the field of contracting, is also planned to be held. The meeting aims to comprehensively evaluate opportunities for solving current issues, future collaborations, and initiating new projects in the field of contracting. It is aimed for the position of Turkish companies, who have significant experience in rebuilding hospital, water, energy, and transportation infrastructure, to be further strengthened during the visit. The visit is expected to create a foundation that will advance economic cooperation between the two countries. Turkish contracting sector gained its first overseas project experience in Libya, where a total of 640 projects worth $31.4 billion have been undertaken so far. Turkish companies have completed 12,505 projects worth $535.3 billion in 137 countries abroad since 1972. Libya ranks as the 5th country where Turkish contractors have undertaken the most projects.
